  • The ultimate man cave, Wild Turkey Lodge has over 14,000 square feet of space between the lodge conditional spaces, porches, decks and garage.
  • Majestic is the word that best describes to feeling as you first see the Lodge.
  • The Oak Room is for fun. The vintage billiard table has been in the family for generations.
  • Reclaimed oak barn wood was used on the wine cellar walls. With its own room air conditioning system, the temperature is held constant to preserve the wine.
  • Notice the embossed wine crates used as a backsplash at the sink. The custom steel doors secure the wine cellar when not in use.
  • The outside living spaces are decked with synthetic wood boards to hold up against the harsh western exposure.
  • The back of the Lodge reaches over 50 feet from the ground up.
  • The garage is more like a carriage house with an apartment above it.
  • Cast stone pavers were used for the driveway to allow water to flow back into the soil.
  • Synthetic slate tiles on the roof are virtually maintenance-free. The standing seam metal on the porches and dormers create a blend of patterns.
  • The stone bump-outs and hip roof dormers frame the timber frame front porch.
  • Landscaping was selected to prevent the local deer from making a meal of the plants.
  • Just off the master bedroom wing is a terrace fenced in with woven mountain laurel.
  • Cedar shingles veneer the side walls of the second floor, painted a dark color to complement the stone and logs.
  • Copper caps were made to protect the posts end grain from rot, effectively doubling the life of the material.
  • The dining room is open to the kitchen and adjacent to the living porch.
  • The Oak Room has a full kitchen to prepare party food for game day.
  • The barn door leading into the bathroom was custom made to match the trim.
  • The second floor bedrooms are paneled vertically in Blue pine to showcase the vaulted ceilings.
  • Mushroom board, a reclaimed wood previously used to grow mushrooms, was used to veneer the back wall and ceiling in this guest bedroom.
  • A simple timber frame trim detail frames the walls and adds character to this bedroom.
  • Above the garage is this rustic paneled bedroom with dark brown chinking adding an earthy graphic look. You can also see the sink in the bathroom made from a hollowed out stone.
  • The kitchen cabinets were made from rustic cherry with natural antler pulls.
  • The floors throughout the house are reclaimed from an old mill in Massachusetts.
  • The wall of windows were framed using full Hemlock tree trunks, shaped to trim around the casement windows and to house the Lutrone screens built in to filter the afternoon sun.
  • The large antler chandelier, Orchard stone fireplace, and leather furniture give this great room the European Hunting Lodge look the client wanted.
  • The lines of the segmented top windows in the great room are continued with the concentric arch of the collar ties. Every joint is beautifully mitered to fit tightly.
  • The master bedroom opens onto a private pergola. Just beyond the French doors, you can see the elevator designed to look like a chimney.
  • This sitting room adjacent to the master bedroom is paneled in pecky cypress.
  • Aspen lamp shades are mounted over the bathroom sinks.
  • The Living Porch also has an outdoor kitchen adjacent to the stone fireplace. The custom fireplace screen was crafted by a local metal smith.
  • The hand peeled log staircase treads are hand scribed and mounted to a single stringer. The staircase appears to float effortlessly. The metal balusters were designed to look like mountain laurel.
  • In the afternoon heat, the Lutron shades come down automatically to shade the light. This home office is paneled in wormy chestnut reclaimed from an old mercantile in North Carolina.
  • Every man cave must have a media room. Look further and you can also see the golf simulation room should you wish to practice your swing on a favorite course.
  • The view of the Cohutta National Forest is unspoiled.

This is the ultimate man cave. The client wanted a European Hunting Lodge look and feel. Who knew rustic elements and natural materials could look so sophisticated? The intention was to design a retreat house that was comfortable, enjoyable, and one of quality craftsmanship. The attention to the details in this Lodge truly represents the commitment of everyone involved. With about 8500 square feet of conditioned space and another 5500 square feet of porches, decks, garage, etc. this man cave is a treat to visit.
